View Bangladesh Australia Disaster Relief Committee AGM 2005

The AGM on last Sunday (20/11/2005) started on time and went for an
hour. The discussions and decisions of the AGM are set out below:

1) At the outset the outgoing Treasurer Mr. Fida Huq placed the
financial report for approval. The report showed financial
situation as at 30/06/2005. After some discussion this report was
subsequently approved in the AGM. The items of note in the report are
as follows:
      * Amount in the Bank as at 1/8/2003: $1224.19
      * Total Amount raised in the last drive: $23849.80
      * Amount paid to Caritas Australia: $14392.74
      * Amount paid to B'desh PM Relief Fund: $10000.00

2) Mr. Fida Huq donated $312.00(out of the sales proceeds from
recent painting exhibitions) to BADRC. Mr. Fida Huq also
suggested that BADRC can raise funds through painting exhibitions of
paintings of artists in Bangladesh Community.

3) In order to broaden the participation in the activities of BADRC
the meeting decided to keep the inclusion of members in the committee
open. A list of office bearers selected/elected in the AGM is enclosed.
This list will be updated as and when any one interested in
helping BADRC puts forward his/her name for inclusion in the committee
as a member. The new committee now invites expression of interest
from the members of Bangladesh Community.

4) It was also decided that in future BADRC meetings should be held
in the different areas of Sydney.

5) Dr. Masudul Haque raised the issue of Public Liability Insurance
cover. It is an insurance cover that all organisations sponsoring
any meetings/functions should have. Since the cost of having an
insurance is not small Dr. Haque will explore whether a global
insurance policy covering the Bangladesh Community as a whole is
feasible.

A massive community movement has emerged in the region, led by members and organization from every ethnic background group in the extensive area of the new boundary changed electorate of Reid.

They have set up a link WEBITE

informing the residents and supporters of MP Laurie Ferguson that a campaign has been launched to gather signatures in support of Laurie Ferguson’s pre-selection for a Seat, which they will submit to the Prime Minister.

We, as many other of the long term residents of this area, who have knowledge of the contribution the Ferguson family have made with their career dedication to the working class families, never thought I would see the day that Laurie Ferguson needed to have us campaign for a pre-selection with the LABOR PARTY.

The Ferguson family are fundamental components of the Labor party. The Fergusons have built a reputation for their achievements in protecting the interests and welfare of the working class people and the weaker members of our society, for which the Labor Party was formed to serve.
